Practice, practice, practice

We are taking some time this week to practice the TAKS test. This is first time that your kiddo will be taking this kind of test, so we are starting off with really focusing on using their strategies that we go over daily. We use the scores as a guidline for us with specific skills, but we still have a lot to learn. Ask your child about the specific strategies that we use in Math and in Reading. They should be able to teach you something new and make themselves feel good about teaching you something.

Math- We use UPS check

Reading- We use BDA (stoplight)

Please email me if you would like me to email you a copy of what we use, so you are familiar with our strategies.

Rolling right along!

We have a had a great start to our year! Thanks to all who have visited our blog.

Something new....
We are starting Study Island. Today the students were given their log in information.
If they forget it is their: lunchnumber@anderson password is: birthday (mmddyy)
They are to complete a 20 question test by Friday.

We also started guided reading! Its one of my favorite things! I get to meet with each of my groups and talk about the books that they read. Each week they will get a lesson plan. The lesson plan lets them know everything that they have to do for the week. I check the reading folders daily and meet with them as often as I can. So, be on the lookout for these two things specifically this week.

Make it a great day!

Vocabulary Parade

Anderson had its 1st Vocabulary Parade on Friday. Each student and teacher were to dress as their favorite vocabulary word. We all paraded around the school. It was a lot of fun seeing what each word looked like.

Here are the 3rd grade teachers:
Ms. Cone- "hibernation", Ms. Theilen- "camouflage", Ms. Wanasek- "elderly", Ms. Percle- "flood", Ms. McCoy- "monocot", Ms. Zadina- "childhood"

I chose one of our science vocabulary words.

Rough Rider's

We had a great time on our Field Trip to the Rough Rider's Stadium. We learned some interesting things about the stadium while we were there!

"My favorite part was when we got to walk on the track to the dugout and we got to sit where the players sit! -says Michele. :)

"My favorite part was the dugout, because the players sit there!" -says Sam.

"I liked the bullpen because that's where the pitchers warm up!" -said Romo.

Did you know that Daisy and Deuce live under the pitchers mound? If you haven't ever been there, we highly recommend going.

Field Trip!

A mistake was made, and our Rough Rider's field trip has been changed to Monday May 10th.
The Rough Riders will actually be playing a game the original day that we were schedule and although that would be fun, we can't go on that day. So we did the next best thing and changed it to Monday. Even more good news, your child will be getting a refund of the $2, so we get to go for free!
Thank you for your understanding.

Are you ready for some baseball?

We have a fun filled field trip scheduled to go see the Frisco Rough Riders' Stadium on May 11th. If you would like to chaperone, please be sure that you have your background information filled out by April 27th as it takes 2 weeks to run the check. We are so excited and would love to have as many parents there as possible! You can even meet us there. We hope to see you soon!

Frisco Fire Safety Town

Today we had our Field trip to FFST.
We had a blast. We learned about bicycle safety and how to be a safe pedestrian. We walked and rode bikes around the town.
After our tour of the fire house we went to Friendship Park and had lunch and an extended recess. Ms. Cone got a workout pushing little people on the tire swing. So fun!

From the mouths of 3rd graders:
"I won hand signal Simon Says", says Alex.
"What a day!", exclaimed Slick.
"Best time ever!", shouted Vince.
"Fire safety town is the best place to ride bikes! exclaimed KT.
"It was the best time of my life", squealed Jennet.

Thanks moms for coming and helping!

Boosterthon

Dear Anderson Parents,

The Boosterthon Fun Run is in full swing at Anderson, and we are super-excited to have the program at our school again this year! The Fun Run is this Thursday, April 1and that's no joke! We would love to see you out there to support our students if you can make it.

Our team, The Vipers, are excited to be helping our school and learning each day how we can STAND UP to change the world! Please ask your child about the daily character lessons discussed in class with the Boosterthon Team.

The goal of the Boosterthon Fun Run is for students to learn about great character, enjoy fitness, and earn pledges to help their school. Here's where we need your help! We are encouraging each student to find at least five sponsors for the Boosterthon Fun Run. Friends, neighbors, and relatives are all great examples. We've already seen pledges from 33 different states and 11 countries! Can you help us?

We hope to see you at the Fun Run! Our class will be running from 9:30-10:30.

Snow Day!

Thursday we got more snow than what we knew what to do with. We enjoyed going outside and playing in the snow for a little while.
After we came back in, we took off our wet shoes to let them air out. Our classroom smelled like a locker room. :)

I hope that you all enjoyed your 4 day weekend and didn't miss me too much! I am looking forward to our Valentine's Party on Tuesday!
See you soon!
Ms. Cone

Camouflage

Hi,my name is Jennet and my class did a game called rabbit, and the object of the game was you have a paper bunny and you pick a spot to put it once you have picked your spot you color it the way it looks to blend into its environment. Once you're done you get tape and then tape it on the spot. I thought there wer some really good ones. We have such a creative class. So if you need a good game you should play this!

What's up what's up!Peyton here and what's happening on Sunday? The super bowl! And who is going to win?

Saints or Colts

Here's a funny story. We were playing a science game called birds and worms. There are three worms. One was green one was red and the last ones were yellow. Now here the story is. Me and Sob saw the same one and it was green so every one wanted it. Ms.Cone says go and I dive to get the green but so does Sob. After that he was on top of me and I got the noodle.

Hi,my name is Mario here is instructions for a game named birds & worms. First, you get some rough pasta from the grocery store. Second, you go outside sprinkle the pasta on the grass. Third, get some kids to play the game. Camouflage is a funny thing but helps protect. Only producers use it because they have predators that want to eat them.

Can you find all the bunnies that are hidden around our room?
